Vesnianka is delighted to announce the appointment of Larisa Makuch and Taras Pawluk as new Artistic Directors. They began working with the company in September 2016 when former Artistic Director, Stefan Kuziw retired from the Ensemble.

Saskatoon-born Larisa Makuch has studied and taught Ukrainian dance for more than 19 years to a variety of students from across Canada. She’s also got a strong background in Anatomy, Biomechanics and Post-Rehabilitative movement therapy which she draws on in her classes. She’s actively studied with masters of Ukrainian dance throughout the beautiful country for more than a decade.

Taras Pawluk has come full circle, as he began his dance studies at Vesnianka Schook of Ukrainian Dance in the 1960’s. Since then, he’s studied ballet and Ukrainian dance, performed and toured the world with a number of Toronto-based Ukrainian dance companies.

The creativity and passion of Larisa and Taras is evident in their challenging and inspiring rehearsals each Monday evening.

Some of the current choreographic repertoire will be maintained and new choreographic pieces have already begun and will be premiered in 2017.

“We are thrilled to be working with Vesnianka. The dancers are beautiful souls with a passion for Ukrainian dance that we share. This coming year will be full of growth and new opportunities.” – Larisa Makuch –
